The brief

A project team from five Universities (RMIT, Curtin University, University of South Australia, University of Technology Sydney and QUT) approached Concentric Learning to initially develop 3 online modules and accompanying resources specifically to support international students in preparing for work integrated learning (WIL). The goal was to build the capability of students to enhance their WIL experiences and optimise employability outcomes.

The modules needed to be rolled out to universities across Australia.

Our Solution

Concentric Learning worked with the WIL International Project group in 2019 to develop three online modules for a pilot program:

  • Preparing for your WIL experience
  • Succeeding in your WIL activity
  • Understanding Australian Workplace Cultures

We collaborated with the Project group to develop modules that specifically targeted the issues faced by international students before, during and after their WIL activity.

We created bespoke, engaging, interactive modules that helped prepare and support  students, including interview videos with guidance and input from current international students. They are designed to help international students better prepare for WIL, engage more effectively with Australian workplaces and increase capacity to develop their employability from WIL experiences.

The modules were initially built in an HTML5 format and after a successful pilot trial, the final modules were provided to universities across Australia, along with an instruction manual guiding them on how to install the package onto their individual LMS.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Project group contracted Concentric Learning to develop a fourth module, Undertaking WIL in an Online Environment, and also to build the completed modules onto a website to make them more easily accessible.

We also designed and delivered a strategic report and a range of educational support materials.

Erik was highly responsive, professional and supportive through our entire project. As the nature of our project was complex, largely through team structure, his patience and persistence was invaluable. I highly recommend Concentric Learning for their quality and personal attention to every detail.
